Mission Statement. Adopt N.O.W. seeks to find Christian families to adopt the waiting children in the South Carolina foster care system.  A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families , Psalm 68:5-6a. Statement of Faith.

  1. Mission Statement • Adopt N.O.W. seeks to find Christian families to adopt the waiting children in the South Carolina foster care system.  • A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, Psalm 68:5-6a

Statement of Faith • We Believe: • The Bible to be the infallible Word of God, His holy and inspired Word, and that it is of supreme and final authority. • • In one eternal God, existing in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. • • Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary. Jesus leading a sinless life, took on all our sins, died and rose again, and is seated at the right hand of the Father as our mediator and advocate. • • That all men everywhere are lost and face the judgment of God, and there is only one way to God through a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ because of His shed blood on the cross.

  3. Statement of Faith • That Christ rose from the dead and is coming again one day. • In holy Christian living, and that we must have concern for the hurts and social needs of our fellowmen. Because of this concern, Adopt N.O.W. recognizes the plight of waiting children in foster care and the Biblical mandate given in James 1:27 to “look after orphans… in their distress.”

The Need • 4,757 children in the foster care system in SC. • 23.4% are between ages of 0-5 • 21.8% are between ages of 6-12 • Approximately 1500 children in foster care have adoption as their plan • Approximately 500 children at any given time in foster care are legally free to be adopted and waiting.

  5. Aging out of Foster Care(U.S. Statistics) • Estimated 20,000 young people “age out” of the system. • Many are only 18 years old and still need support and services. • Statistics on future of children who age out: • 54% get a high school diploma • 2% earn a bachelor’s degree or higher • 84% become a parent • 51% were unemployed • 30% had no health insurance • 25 % were homeless • 30% were receiving public assistance

  6. History of Adopt N.O.W. • The idea of Adopt N.O.W. (No One Waiting) was inspired by a program called Project 1.27 in Colorado. • Members of Our Father’s Children, the orphan ministry at East Pickens Baptist Church, began to pray about beginning Adopt N.O.W. • After several meetings in October 2009, the partnership between Adopt N.O.W. and SC DSS began.

  7. The Plan • Form a network of Partner Churches across SC who will recruit Christian families to adopt the children waiting in the foster care system. • These Partner churches could also assist their local DSS office by hosting classes, support groups, and providing volunteers and mentors. • Churches in each county could set a goal to find the adoptive families needed for the number of children waiting on adoption from their own community. • Ultimately have more families waiting to adopt than children waiting to be adopted.  

  8. Is it Possible? • If you consider the number of churches in South Carolina, it may be more attainable than you think. • For example there are an estimated 2030 Southern Baptist churches in SC. • If only one family out of four Southern Baptist churches in our state came forward to adopt, we would have enough homes for these waiting children. • That example is only using Southern Baptist churches as an example, not to mention the other denominations in our state.

  11. Promote • Adopt N.O.W. and help raise awareness in their congregations about waiting children.

  12. Host • Support groups for adoptive parents in the area. • State required classes for adoptive families.

  13. Recruit • Adoptive families. • Support families from within their church who will partner with adoptive families and help them by supplying financial, material, and/or emotional support. • Prayer partners from church who will spiritually adopt each waiting child by praying that the child will find a forever family and an eternal Savior.

  14. Recruit • Families willing to “adopt” a young person who ages out of the foster care system. Although not a legal adoption these mentors would provide a supportive connection to a young person….such as: provide a place for a young person to spend holidays, go to for questions and guidance as they enter adulthood.

  15. What do we expect of Catalyst Churches? • Catalyst Churches will lead in raising awareness of waiting children in their own county. • The Catalyst Church will act as a liaison with their local DSS office. • The Catalyst Church will attempt to recruit other Partner Churches in their local area.
