Some Reasons for the Delay in Construction of Kitchen cum Storerooms in Andhra Pradesh • The Govt. took a decision to build pucca RCC Roof for Kitchen cum storerooms. • Being a small work the Shuttering for RCC roof was a big problem • Also since it is a petty work with very low estimated cost when compared to State SSRs, few Contractors have come forward to take up this work.
Alternate method to overcome the Problems encountered • The Govt. took a decision to try with pre-fabricated technology for construction of Kitchen cum Storerooms on pilot basis in 10 different locations. • The Kitchen cum Storerooms taken up in this Pilot Project using cement based panels for walls and roof. • The Kitchen cum Storerooms were completed in a very short period • These Kitchen cum Storerooms constructed in 2009, are in good condition even today and there were no complaints from the schools. Based on the fact that the Pilot project was successful, it is felt that this Prefabricated method can be adopted as one of the alternatives for construction of Kitchen cum Storerooms.
Technical Details of Prefab Kitchen cum Storerooms • Basement using CRS masonry • 1mm GI C Channels were fixed on basement • In the C Channels the Cement panels are inserted which lock on a tongue-groove basis . • The Cement panel is a sandwich panel of two fibre reinforced Cement sheets enclosing a light-weight core of Portland Cement, binders and a mix of siliceous and micaceous material aggregate. • No curing is required as these panels are fully cured at factory . • Their unique tongue and groove system facilitiates rapid construction with minimum effort. • The roof was also erected with these panels . • These panels generate mimimal inertia force and therefore contribute to greater stability. • The tongue-groove system permits local adjustments for shock absorption. • Steel angles are provided which connect the walls and the roof, this provides sufficient ductility at the junctions. • Water, termite and fire-resistant properties which will help withstand adverse weather conditions. • Finish equivalent to a cement finish, therefore, appears like conventional cement structure. • Due to generous use of fly ash and being timber-free makes it eco-friendly.
Advantages of Prefab Kitchen Sheds • Can be installed in quick time • Modular, hence, easily expandable • Can be dismantled quickly and neatly • Can be reassembled in the school campus when additional infrastructure is planned • Looks very elegant • Not much water is required during construction • Simple method of erection which can be understood and replicated by local labour and manpower • Moreover it is eco-friendly.
