Location of Adjectives Adjectives can be located in three places in a sentence. • Most common location is directly in front of the noun it is modifying. Ex. the big dog, the new toy • Location #2 is after a linking verb or verb. Ex. The game was interesting. 3. Location #3 occurs after a noun when it is set off by commas. Ex. The book, well-written and suspenseful, kept my interest.
Articles = Adjectives • Articles: • a - refers to any noun • Example: Please hand me a cup of flour. • an – refers to any noun that begins with a vowel • Example: Please hand me an egg. • the – refers to a specific noun • Example: Please hand me the cup of flour and the egg.
Proper Adjectives • An adjective that is formed from a proper noun. • Proper adjectives, like proper nouns, are capitalized. • Proper adjectives, like proper nouns, are specific. • Examples: • I enjoy Italian cuisine. • Italian (proper adjective) Italy (proper noun) • Capricorn Anderson worshiped at a Buddhist shrine. • Buddhist (proper adjective) Buddha (proper noun)
