Updates: • ROUND 1 • SWP YTD Spending by Project • Round 1 Expenditures • Amounts based on invoices received by Rancho Santiago (fiscal agent) from 16/17 and up to 10/31/17. • TPP = $4,662 ROUND 2 • The CEO Council met on January 5, 2018, and voted to fund the top 12 regional projects in order of ranking by scores with the 83% SWP Regional Share for the LA Sub-Region. • TPP project was ranked 11th out of 12 projects in the LA region. • No additional budget cuts were required from the TPP project • 17% funding - full allocation of 17% regional share funding in the amount of $3,470,000 to the L.A. Teacher Assistant/Mentor (TeAM Program) TEACHER ASSISTANT OPPORTUNITIES • Work as a Teacher Assistant (TA) for STEM/CTE faculty on campus (RHC) • Work as a Teacher Assistant (TA) for STEM/CTE faculty off campus (secondary schools) • Assist faculty in developing and implementing an after-school pilot program utilizing game-based and/or project-based learning strategies (2016-17) • Serve as a Teacher Assistant during the CTE Career Exploration Summer Academy
2017 CTE Career Exploration Summer Academy (July 17-21, 96 middle school students attended) • The annual event exposes middle school students to STEM careers in the Energy & Utilities, Information Technology, Health Science and Transportation industry sectors, as well as opportunities in higher education. • Seven (7) STEM-CTE l TEACH students assisted faculty and staff in facilitating hands-on and contextualized modules offered during the 2017 CTE Summer Academy • Four (4) Student Facilitators led and presented 4 modules SUMMER 2017 UPDATE

Teacher Assistant/Mentor (TeAM Program) ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Mentees • Must be a full-time, or part-time student at RHC pursuing a certificate/degree in one of STEM-CTE l TEACH’s targeted fields • Must be registered for at least 6 units for the semester that the activity is to be performed. • GPA: at least 2.5 in previous academic work • Must have proper work documentations to work in the US to be eligible for a stipend. • Submission of the required application and paperwork .
Teacher Assistant/Mentor (TeAM Program) TEACHER ASSISTANT (MENTEE) GUIDELINES Read the Mentee Guidelines Handbook (included in your packet) • Orientation session set by the assigned instructor/mentor (arrange schedule, exchange contact info., complete NA form) • Complete Needs Assessment form with the CTE instructor’s input and approval during your 1st session. • Must complete the minimum hours (30 hours) required for the specific TA experience; record hours on Time Sheet. • Returning STEM-CTE l TEACH Participants Only: Returning TAs must have new or expanded responsibilities or learning opportunities beyond those experienced during previous activity. • Mentees assigned to assist in the secondary schools- may be subject to background check and enrollment in CWEE.
Teacher Assistant/Mentor (TeAM Program) ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Mentors • Must be teaching during the current semester • One (1) year teaching experience in STEM or CTE field • Must not exceed 60% load for part-time and 140% load for full-time faculty.* • Submission of the required Mentor Application *For faculty who are over their load, the Dept. Dean must obtain approval from the VP and President.
Teacher Assistant/Mentor (TeAM Program) MENTOR GUIDELINES • Read the Mentor Guidelines (included in the Mentor packet). • Give timely notifications of specific assignments which clearly outlines the mentee’s duties and responsibilities. • Meet with the mentee in a regular basis. • Must try to accommodate the competencies and schedule of the mentee when determining assignments. • Mentor MUST always be present and available to observe and provide guidance to his/her mentee AT ALL TIMES (no exceptions).
Teacher Assistant/Mentor (TeAM Program) APPLICATION PACKET (Students) The following documents are required to apply for the mentorship program: • Applicationform (for all new and returning applicants) • One-page, double-spaced essay on why you’re interested in becoming a teacher (for new applicants only) • Recommendation letter from a former/current teacher or employer (for new applicants only) Note: Failure to submit the above paperwork at the allotted deadlines may cause disqualification from the TeAM program.
