Analysis for theLPMP Medium Interest Fixes(LMC13) Candidate POC: G. Shea
LMC13 Overview • Summary Description • Modify Missile Flight Sim so that it could ignore terrain impact prior to the beginning of the retarget or aimpoint update IMMM. • Provide LPMP with enhanced error checking (I.e. fuze type when retargeting). • Fix error conditions when retargeting missions with embedded targets. • Fleet Benefit • Enhanced LPMP to create retargets when missions have been planned with aggressive terrain following. Correct a error checking and conditions conditions in LPMP. • Fleet Importance: Low • CR Summary • Adaptive: 0 • Perfective: 3 • Corrective: 0 • TOTAL: 3
LMC13 Analysis • Technical Description • Modify Missile Flight Sim so that it could ignore terrain impact prior to the beginning of the retarget or aimpoint update IMMM. • Provide LPMP with enhanced error checking (I.e. fuze type when retargeting). • Fix error conditions when retargeting missions with embedded targets. • Effort: Medium • Size: High (rate Low (<100 SLOC), Medium (<500 SLOC) or High (>500 SLOC)) • Complexity: Medium (rate Low (easy changes to implement), Medium (average changes to implement), High (difficult changes to implement)) • External Dependencies: None • Risk: Low • Addresses 3 CR Eliminates 0 TTBs/TIP entries
LMC13 Recommendation • Recommendation Implement in v6 Defer for future consideration • Rationale • The conditions that make these CRs occur are very small. Item 1 only occurs when there is aggressive terrain following and the CR stated that is very unlikely to occur. Item 2 is requesting a retarget with an invalid fuze setting, which is very unlikely to occur. Item 3 only occurs during test flights. • Issues • None
CR # Class TIP Description Disposition 11104 P A retarget mission was requested using a fuze setting of 3 (invalid). The requested mission generation was successful. A fuze setting of medium was used in the mission. It was expected that the retarget mission would fail to generate. Testing confirmed that rapid response mission generation will fail when an invalid fuze setting is used in the request. CRB Addition: This CR is intended to drive enhanced error-checking in TcCm. Addressed in White Paper 11106 P A preplanned mission with embedded targets was selected for LPMP retarget. The retarget request failed due to a processing error accompanied by LPMP execution window text "...RouterException: Invalid inputs to RetargetBuilder::gerRowCols: ...". The problem occurred on several occasions when action points greater than #257 selected as retarget branch action point. Detailed test inputs available upon request. Addressed in White Paper 11864 P This CR was written as an action from the discussion of CR 11794 at the CRB on 1/30/04. MmMfs is used to simulate missile flight up to the point where a retarget or aimpoint update begins. This is done in order to get accurate estimates of missile state at the beginning of the retarget or IMMM. At the 1/30/04 CRB, there was concern that a preplanned mission with aggressive terrain following might result in the MmMfs simulated flight impacting terrain because of its conservative nature. This is more likely to occur if the day type being used for the simulated flight is significantly warmer than that used to generate the preplanned mission. In any case, this problem is still not very likely to occur. The problem could be eliminated completely if MmMfs were modified so that it could ignore terrain impact prior to the beginning of the retarget or aimpoint update IMMM. Addressed in White Paper LMC13 CR Summary
LMC13 – Design Concept • CR 11104 – Provide LPMP with enhanced error checking • LPMP shall check for valid fuze type before procession mission creation requests. • CR 11106 – Correct LPMP error conditions when using a mission with embedded targets. • When an error occurs in LPMP when using a mission with embedded targets, LPMP shall return the proper error condition. • CR 11864 – Modify Missile Flight Sim so that it could ignore terrain impact prior to the beginning of the retarget or aimpoint update IMMM. • Modify MmMfs so that it shall ignore terrain impact prior to the beginning of the retarget or aimpoint IMMM.
