  4. Where can I take PSEO classes? • North Hennepin Community College • Anoka Ramsey Community College • St. Cloud State University • U of M • Any public or private school in Minnesota that offers PSEO

  5. What are the benefits? • Save money on tuition and books • Get a jump start on completing college level classes • May reduce the time you spend in college • Gives you a “feel” for what college will be like • May have a more flexible daily schedule

  6. What are the downfalls? • Miss out on high school experiences • May not be able to schedule in classes that you are required to take • Spend money on gas • Professors aren’t as available as STMA teachers • If you do poorly, it is on your permanent college & high school record • Credits may not transfer

  7. “Advanced students seeking a challenge—and a pat on the back for going above and beyond—sometimes wonder whether they might be better off taking courses at a local college rather than their high school’s honors or AP courses. In most cases, they won’t be. AP culminates in a grade recognized nationwide, and the caliber of student at your local college may not be as high as in an advanced high school course. A college course is generally the better option only if a student is looking at specialized subject matter, such as a language like Russian or Japanese. What are the steps to apply? • Set up a meeting with your parents and your counselor AFTER March 1st only if you meet the PSEO requirements • Figure out what classes you need to take to graduate • Fill out application • Wait to hear back from the college • Go in for placement exam • Attend Orientation/Register for classes

  10. Please Note… • You must decide right from the beginning if you will be full-time or part-time student and then stick with that plan for the whole school year. • According to the MN State Statue, students must notify the high school by May 30th if they plan to attend PSEO.

  11. You are responsible for checking in with your counselor once you register for classes and throughout your senior year!

Preparation for the ACT College Entrance Exam • Register for the following courses at https://stma.thatscommunityed.comor see page 32 in the Community Ed book for more information. • ACT Test Prep -Taught by STMA HS Teachers -Week long course -$80 • ZAPS Course -Taught by a ZAPS instructor -2 evening course -$79 • ACT Training Camp -Taught by Academic All Star Tutoring -4 full day sessions -$299
