Geography • Location: Caribbean, islands between the Caribbean Sea and North Atlantic Ocean, north of Trinidad and Tobago • Area: total: 389 sq km (Saint Vincent 344 sq km) land: 389 sq km water: 0 sq km • Climate: tropical; little seasonal temperature variation; rainy season (May to November) • Natural resources: hydropower, cropland

Travel Trough time • 1719: French settlers and cultivated coffee, tobacco, indigo, cotton and sugar on plantation work by African slaves. • 1763: St. Vincent was ceded to Britain. • 1779: Restore to French rule. • 1783: St. Vincent was regained by the British under the Treaty of Paris in which Great Britain officially recognized the end of the American Revolution. • 1795: Conflict between the British and the Black Caribs, led by defiant Paramount Chief Joseph Chatoyer • 1834: Slavery was abolished and end prematurely 1938 http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/2345.htm

  5. Travel Trough time 2 • 1902: La Soufrière volcano erupted, killing 2,000 people. • April 1979, La Soufrière erupted again.   6. Trivia: Saint Vincent and the grenadines has one of the few forts in the world where the canons point in land rather than towards the sea. Saint Vincent are one of the oldest botanical garden in Western Hemisphere.

  25. Nine mornings • celebrated annually during the nine mornings before Christmas. • Vincentians awake in the early hours of the morning. • In the rural areas, the final morning of the festivity usually ended with a steel band “jump-up”.
