NSF Planning Grant • 2-year grant, started late Sept 2007 • Budget (≈$190k total) • $75k for cyberinfrastructure hardware and software engineering • $45k to support participant costs at two planning workshops (Dec 2007 and Dec 2008) • ≈$12k for each Co-PI (5 total) for • Annual travel to NSF grantees workshop • Prototype tool deployment • ≈$10k for general administration http://thermalhub.org
Goals of the Planning Grant • Hold global community planning events to: • establish a framework for community involvement, • consolidate a set of community-driven research and learning goals, • introduce the shared thermalHUB concept. • Develop baseline cyberinfrastructure resources to serve the community • Demonstrate a prototype of thermalHUB consisting of selected applications using the foregoing resources • Create a conceptual design for full implementation of thermalHUB http://thermalhub.org

Properties Database • The Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) • Managed a comprehensive and systematic research program on the properties and behavior of materials, for 45 years at Purdue • The Thermophysical Properties of Matter - The TPRC Data Series includes mostly bulk and some thin film thermal properties • Example: OnlineThermal Property Database of Thin Films and Nanomaterials • Accept thermal property measurement results from the community • Online Database accuracy will be ensured as follows: • All data will be subject to open online reviews by both users and by experts chosen by the Database Editorial Board – before being officially accepted • All data needs to have the original measurements and the data processing procedure, which will be reviewed and posted with the properties http://thermalhub.org
