Wave Equations. Frequency. Frequency is the number of cycles per time second – the unit is hertz. One cycle is measured from peak to peak or trough to trough. 2 cycles per second = 2 hertz. Period. Is the time it take for a wave to pass a certain point. Period = 1/frequency or T= 1/f

Frequency • Frequency is the number of cycles per time second – the unit is hertz. • One cycle is measured from peak to peak or trough to trough. • 2 cycles per second = 2 hertz
Period • Is the time it take for a wave to pass a certain point. • Period = 1/frequency or T= 1/f • Example if a bird flaps at a frequency of 121 hertz (cycles per second). The period is 1/121 = ~0.00826 seconds • Frequency equals 1/period • 1/0.00826 = ~121 hertz
The Wave Equation • Speed = Wavelength • Frequency
