  2. What is Apartheid? Apartheid is black people being separated by whites. Apartheid happened in South Africa, 1948-1994, between black and white people. It was a horrible time!

  3. NELSON MANDELLA Nelson Mandela was born on the 18th July 1918. He was named Rolihlahla, which is African for trouble maker. When he was a young boy ,he and his family moved from Mvezo to the nearby village of Qunu so Nelson began to start herding his families sheep and goats

  4. when Nelson turned 7 years old , his father decided to send him to school. It was a mission school built by Europeans who had come to south Africa to spread Christianity. At the age of nine Nelsons father died, This turned his life upside down

  5. Nelson vs. apartheid • In 1948 the government started passing laws that introduced apartheid • In 1960, during a trial held by Mandela, a tragedy happened that shocked the world

  6. In 1964 Nelson spoke in defence of the black people causing him to get sent to prison for life, he was sacrificing his life for others • Eventually Nelson Mandela was freed. • Ever since nelson has been a hero.

  7. Why is Nelson a hero to me??? • Nelson Mandela is a hero to me because he sacrificed his life to other people, it means allot to me.

  8. Desmond Tutu To me Desmond Tutu is a hero because he fought against the apartheid.

  9. South African flag • The many colours on the flag represent the rainbow of people in South Africa. • The “Y” on the flag symbolizes the union of many groups of people in Africa. • The red on the flag represents the blood and death in Africa • The yellow represents the gold and sun in Africa.

  10. The white on the flag represents white people. • The black represents the black people in Africa. • The green and the blue represent the earth and the sea in africa.
