Steps! • Find the slope using two points on the line. 2. Pick one point on the line to use in equation. 3. Write general equation: 4. Plug slope and point into equation.

New type of problem! We are going to be given a scatter plot. We are going to draw a line of best fit AND write an equation for that line in point slope form.
Important • When you draw your line of best fit, make sure it hits at least two points so that we can find the slope.
Solution • Use the two points on the line to find the slope. Then pick one of the points to plug into the equation. • Slope: -2/3 • Point: (3,2) • Equation:
Definition • An x-intercept is the point where the line crosses the x-axis. • So, when y=0, (x,0) • How do we find it? • Plug 0 in for y and solve for x.
Example • Find the x-intercept of the line y=15-5x Solution: y=15-5x 0=15-5x -15 = -5x 3=x X-intercept is 3
