  2. What Differentiates Millennial Students From Other Generations? • Special • Sheltered • Confident • Team Oriented • Conventional • Pressured • Achieving

Identity Construction • I am a Freshman at Queens University of Charlotte • My Identity in high school: • From Baltimore, MD • GPA 3.5 SAT 1550 • Spanish Club and National Honor Society • My Parents both graduated from UMD • My parents wanted me to Major in Business or Pre-Med • I was interested in Sports Communications • I went to a small high school, but was not sure what size college was right for me

  4. Retrospection • My parents had me attend over 10 high school college visits and 2 college fairs. • My parents chose specific schools for me to visit. • UMD, Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, Elon, Davidson, UNC Charlotte and Queens. • My parents applied to each of these schools for me.

  5. Enactment • I was excited to experience COLLEGE LIFE. • What will it be like? • Will my parents be happy with my decision and can they afford it?

  6. Socialization • From Junior to Senior year I sought advise from: • Friends at School • Guidance Counselors and Independent College Consultants • Social Media Sites • Admissions Counselors • Family

  7. Continuation • Top 3 Schools (Davidson, Queens, and UNC Charlotte) • Parental Communication with Admissions Office • Acceptance or Denial • Second Campus Visits • Participate in Classes • Overnight visits and meetings with professors • Financial Aid/Residence Life

  8. Extracted Cues • Which School really wants me? • Loose Coupling with Admissions Counselors • What I liked and did not like after my second campus visit • Internship and study abroad opportunities • Small Class Sizes • Finding a Career • Going to school in Charlotte
