  4. 1941-1942: British Army (Montgomery) & German Afrika Corps (Rommel) locked into a back and forth battle in N. Africa 2. Oct1942: Monty launches an attack at El Alamein, Egypt 3. Nov 1942: US Gen. Eisenhower’s troops land in Morocco, starting Operation Torch
