What is the essence of da’wah? • To make more people worship Allah • To make already worshippers better Muslims This is achieved by: • Shahadah for the new Muslim • Nasihah for the already Muslim
Who should do da’wah? • Is primarily the work of the prophets and messengers • It is now the primary duty of Muslims • Organised da’wah • If some Muslims are doing it then it lifts the sin from others • If no one is doing it then it becomes compulsory on every Muslim until it is established
Two Types of Guidance (Hidaya) • Hidayatulirshaad: Our Duty • Trying to direct someone to the truth • Hidayatultawfiq: From Allah • When Allah opens a persons heart to Islam.
Obstacles on the Path of the da’iy to getting Shahadah • Expecting Instant Results 2. “I don’t have enough knowledge” 3. “I myself am in need of dawah” 4. Too Shy 5. Not knowing who you’re talking to
The Various Da’wah Methods 1. Pamphlet pushing 2. Group Dawah 3. One-on-one style street Dawah 4. One-on-one sit down Dawah 5. Internet Dawah 6. Indirect Dawah
Da’wah methods for MICA Medical Caravan • One-on-one street da’wah • Time is of the essence. Be efficient • Move in groups of 2 to 6 • Take security and environment into consideration • Consider the language • One-on-one sit down • Diagnose the person and apply remedy • You have more time but still use your time well • Listen, don’t interrupt • If they repeat an argument, re-phrase and say it back to them
Dos and Don’ts of Da’wah MICA Da’wah Training
Dos: 1. Be patient: be prepared to run across people who don’t want your dawah 2. Be neat and clean in appearance 3. Be straight forward 4. Ask for a name 5. Find out the beliefs of your prospect
Dos: 6. Smile. 7. Avoid unnecessary confrontations, arguments… simply move on! 8. Have a partner with you. 9. Be focused on your task and keep the ball rolling. 10. Use simple language. 11. Understand needs, obstacles and issues.
Dos: 12. Listen with your eyes and your ears. 70-80% of communication is nonverbal 13. Get your Prospect to listen: • Nod • Use open gestures • Lean forward • Maintain eye contact but don’t stare 14. Find points to agree upon. Present them with concepts that will get you a ‘yes’. 15. Acknowledge their questions as intelligent – " That’s a good question" – “I'm actually glad you brought that point up” – “I can see why you understood it that way” 16. Avoid human obstacles (partner)
Dos: • Most important: Make the Sale! • Ask prospect to become a Muslim
Don’ts: • Don’t start by attacking or being aggressive • Don’t be evasive • Never use the 'lets not push him’ technique • Never interrupt a person giving da’wah – unless for a VERY GOOD REASON or you have a good point your partner overlooked • Don’t get into a negotiation. • Don’t Give up if the person seems uninterested or makes fun of you. • Don’t Falsify nor exaggerate information • Don’t Misrepresent Islam’s position regarding the other party • Don’t MAKE A JUDGEMENT BASED ON LOOKS!

MICA Da’wah Message - Guide • Observe all Do’s and Don’ts • Emphasise on the importance of shahadah • Emphasise the two parts of shahadah • Understand the listener (pay attention to issues and obstacles) • Apply diagnosis and remedy • If Muslim – Nasihah • If non-Muslim – Ask for Shahadah • If there are still more issues, refer appropriately to one-on-one sit down desk
Importance and parts of Shahadah • There is an urgency attached to pronouncing the shahadah • Must never be delayed • Must be said before death comes • It is compulsory to make the testimony as entry point into the faith of Islam • The full content of the shahadah (2 Parts) • I testify that there is no diety worthy of worship but Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah on him) is His messenger
