What Does an Argument Do? • Makes a central claim and supports it. • Uses examples, logic or sources to back up ideas. • Joins the conversation. • Presents another side—a different way to think about something (in this case, an issue). • Informed by Catherine Tetz
Your Task: What You See… • Get into 7 groups • Analyze the section of the song you receive • Now, as a group, create a visual representation for your portion of the lyrics • Remember, as with the film poster recreations, you will need to consider: color choice, word choice, what is in the background vs. the foreground, etc. All of these decisions will affect your overall argument • Take your time & Be thoughtful
Closing Reflection • Considering today’s activity, what did you find to be most important to making your argument clear? • How does this apply to writing? • We all express ourselves in some way—through what mode do you prefer to express yourself? Why?
