Text Purpose • I think the author wrote this book to inform and explain the lives of slaves, and show what they went through every day. The intended audience was also probably students wanting to know about slavery or do a project about it.
Text Structure • The text structure is description, it tells all about slavery, the problems the slaves faced, and how it ended.

Reading Response • 1. pages 48-49,The way it says the slaves would lose family members makes me sad. I can relate that to the Hunger Games book, when the kids are being picked for the reaping they lose family members. • 2. page 39, The way they would sell slaves makes me angry, it reminds me of the auctions they have when they sell cars. • 3. page148, The way it talks about the KKK reminds me of the way Hitler thought About the perfect race and would kill Jews ,just like the KKK hates African American people.
