  2. AZA Begins • The Aleph Zadik Aleph for Young Men • Founded in 1923 in Omaha, NE • Elected Abe Baboir as first Godol • First advisor- Nathan Mnookin • Nathan Mnookin moved to Kansas City to start new chapter • Needed to find new advisor

  3. Sam Beber • AZA Approached Sam Beber to be new advisor • Beber agreed on one condition • Had idea to spread AZA all over the country • Made Seven Cardinal principles • Known as the person who founded AZA

  4. International Order Begins • May 3, 1924 • Met at Harry Lapidus’ house • First charter given to Mother Chapter #1 • Constitution and by-laws drawn up, and the Supreme Advisory Council came into being • Sam Beber- 1st Grand President • Nathan Mnookin- 1st Grand Vice-President

  5. First International Convention • Grand Aleph Godol Elections • Charles Shane and William Horowitz • Deadlocked • Went to the Supreme Advisory Council for decision • Chose Charles Shane because he was 20 and Horowitz was only 17

  6. Other Important Events • Henry Monsky gives stirring speech to body of BBI convention in 1925 and gets AZA adopted as official youth organization of B’nai Brith • Dr. Boris G. Bogen presents his five-fold and full program to the SAC in 1928 • 1944- BBG formed by Anita Pearlman

  7. Seven Cardinal Principles • PATRIOTISM • Loyalty to my homeland, to its laws, to its principles, to its ethics. To die for it if need be, but primarily to live for it. • JUDAISM • Always to observe the tenets of my faith; ever to do justice, love, mercy, and walk humbly with the Lord my G-d. • FILIAL LOVE • Ever to honor and love my parents. To be considerate of my elders and to respect age. • CHARITY • To give of myself and my substance for all worthy causes, to be kind and generous to all in need, regardless of race or creed. • CONDUCT • Never too bold, never too forward, ever humble, ever observing the principles of gentlemen. • PURITY • To keep my soul pure, my mind active and my body healthy. • FRATERNITY  • A spirit of sociability, of cooperation and of friendship toward all AZA's that shall make of us one fellowship; a love of and a loyalty to AZA and its ideals.
