  1. Energy By Mrs. Deringer

  2. What is Energy? Energy is the ability to do work. By Mrs. Deringer

  3. Where does Energy Come From? Almost all energy, comes from the Sun. The Sun warms our planet and makes plants grow. By Mrs. S. Deringer

  4. Plants make their own Energy. Plants don’t need to go to the supermarket to get their food. They can make their own food through a process known as photosynthesis. By Mrs. Deringer

  5. Where do we get our energy from? You get your energy from eating plants, or by eating other animals like which have fed off plants. By Mrs. Deringer

  6. We also need energy to . . .

  7. What are fossil fuels? Fossil fuels were made millions of years ago from plant life and microscopic organisms’ remains. The three primary fossil fuels are . . . . . petroleum (oil) Natural Gas Coal

  8. Making Electricity This high pressure steam is used to spin huge turbines which turn, generators. You can use fossil fuels to make electricity. Each can be burned to heat water. To create steam at really high pressure. By Mrs. Deringer

  9. COAL By Mrs. Deringer

  10. Natural Gas Long, long time ago, the plants in the sea died and were buried under the sand. After millions of years, believe it or not, with pressure and heat, they turned into natural gas and petroleum. Heating Fuel

  11. Oil When these microscopic organisms died they took the stored sun’s energy to their grave. . These organisms became crude oil or petroleum. There

  12. Petrochemicals are made from witches.. Just kidding . . . . . . By Mrs. Deringer

  13. Petrochemicals are products made from fossil fuels, mainly oil. Man-made rubber WAX cosmetics medicines

  14. Was it made by a fossil fuel??? ITEMS paper aluminum electricity sneakers cotton NO 6.nylon stockings 7. fertilizer 8. crayons 9. spoon 10. candles YES NO YES YES YES YES YES NO YES

  15. Everyday Uses of Oil • http://www.priweb.org/ed/pgws/uses/uses_home.html Click on the link to play a petrochemical game.

  16. Click Here to learn how fossil fuels were made.Fossil Fuels are Nonrenewable resources

  17. How we use fossil fuels to make electricity. burn fossil fuels to - heat up water - water turns to steam - steam spins the turbine (fan blades) - turbine spins the generator (magnet) - produces electricity.

  18. Click Here to learn how FOSSIL FUELS MAKE ELECTRICITY By Mrs. Deringer

  19. Pollution All this burning of fossil fuels though, creates lots and lots of pollution. Causing Global warming. Click here to find out more about the dangers of global warming. Soon we will run out of fossil fuels. So we need to find renewable energy resources. Renewable resources will be here forever.

  20. Renewable Resources It is up to us to find other ways to power our vehicles and heat our homes. Renewable resources are natural resources that we will never run out of. By Mrs. Deringer

  21. Solar Energy Solar energy used to - heat up water - water turns to steam - steam spins the turbine (fan blades) - turbine spins the generator (magnet) - produces electricity.

  22. Click Here to watch a clip on Solar Energy

  23. Wind Power WIND energy is used to - spins the turbine (fan blades) - turbine spins the generator (magnet) - produces electricity.

  24. Click here to learn about WIND ENERGY By Mrs. Deringer

  25. Hydroelectric Rushing water spins the turbine (fan blades) - turbine spins the generator (magnet) - produces electricity.

  26. Click here to learn more about Hydroelectric Power.

  27. Geothermal Heat from the earth is used to - heat up water - water turns to steam - steam spins the turbine (fan blades) - turbine spins the generator (magnet) - produces electricity. By Mrs. Deringer

  28. Click Here to watch a video clip on Geothermal Energy.

  29. Biomass burn biomass (plant and animal wastes, wood chips, corn stalks) to heat up water - water turns to steam - steam spins the turbine (fan blades) - turbine spins the generator (magnet) - produces electricity.

  30. The End . . . . . By Mrs.. S Deringer Now go back to the Fossil fuels link and complete the quiz. .. . .
