  7. Architecture • Architecture in the 17th century followed the Baroque style • This may have been similar to Moliere’s house • This may have also been similar to Moliere’s vision for the set of Tartuffe

  8. During the 1660’s • The King of France was Louis XIV • He was born in 1638, became king in 1643, and reigned until his death in 1715 • He was known as the Sun King • Moliere was his official entertainment

  11. During the 1660’s • At the same time Moliere was writing, Pierre Corneille (top) and Jean Racine (bottom) were writing • They are all three considered the best dramatists of the 17th century
