An initiative of the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program (NDIIPP) • A collaborative effort among government agencies, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and business entities to preserve a distributed national digital collection for the benefit of citizens now and in the future. • Community-driven, action-oriented
NDSA Working Groups Members commit to participating in one of the five working groups of the Alliance: Content Outreach Infrastructure Innovation Standards & Practices
Content WG • Investigating guidelines for the selection of significant content, discovery of at-risk digital content or collections, and engaging all stakeholders in the process of acquiring the content, preserve it, and provide access to it. Developing case studies and models to share compelling stories that demonstrate the value of digital preservation in our communities. • Learn more at our BPE presentation, Wednesday @ 1:00pm
Survey goal: to find out the scope of collecting web content in the United States: what policies are in place (collecting, permissions, and access) what content is being collecting what services and tools are being used to archive The survey was conducted in October 2011, distributed on the Signal blog, on listservs and social media 28 questions total, developed by CWG members Web Archiving Survey
Activities 20% are preserving their own institutional web content 31% are archiving content “from other organizations or individuals for future research” 49% are doing both
Future survey? • What else should we be asking? • What would be useful statistics to have every few years? • How do we reach more institutions?
