Monet’s Favorite Subjects • Boats • Oceans • Ponds • Lakes • Outdoor scenes • Monet thought painting inside was stuffy
Studied art in Paris • Monet met other artists like Renoir and they shared his love for painting outdoors • Impressionist painters had no money, just painted all day long • So poor, they ate beans for 2 months straight
Floating studio • Edoard Manet painted Monet painting in his boat • Monet fixed a boat, kept his supplies in it and floated down the river • Painted what he saw as he traveled
Monet wanted paintings to be well known • Tried to get his paintings to show at the Salon in Paris • Many were not picked • Painted “Women in the Garden” which is same woman in 4 different poses • Camille was his favorite model • Monet and Camille fell in love and married
