  2. Data Collation in 2006 LAMS (LA statutory performance) Collected on disk (access system) Water Quality Excel files + Other sent to EPA. Diverse formats Some extracted from Agency LIMS Waste Information Excel and paper based system Bathing Water Online internet system providing summary compliance information Complaints Paper based correspondence EPA Water Quantity Data reported to EPA via email Air Quality Data down loaded and Excel file sent to EPA. Real-time invalidated data available Urban Waste Water Excel system – Files sent to EPA, slow and cumbersome Drinking Water Abstraction Received in various forms form LA Quality Via Excel template Dangerous Substances Paper based system

  3. New Approach Required to Meet WFD Needs • Conceptual model envisaged three pices to the jigsaw • EDEN • The Environmental Data Exchange Network is a system for the collection and sharing of environmental data. EDEN acts as a data hub where data can be deposited and shared. It facilitates the storage and exchange of data between public bodies and reporting to the EPA • Aquarius • Similar to EDEN but has two additional roles a) it provides for more rigorous compliance checking of data, and b) it will act as the national node for reporting to WISE/SEIS. • GeoWater • is GIS database that addresses all spatial aspects of water management. It currently acts as the national reference dataset for all spatial water data, e.g. rivers, lakes, groundwater bodies etc.

  5. The First Step – A Central Data Repository LA 3 LA 1 EPA LA 2 LA 4 Water Quality date received can be assessed by Agency, processed and reported onwards where required. Data from Agency’s water quality monitoring programmes available to LA’s via CDX Drinking Water Bathing Water Urban Waste Water River Water Quality CDX/CDR acts only as convayer of information Lake Water Quality C&T Water Quality Groundwater Data Hydrometric Data Information on state of water quality in Ireland available via Agency’s GIS webservices RBDs Other All data can be uniquely geo referenced for use in national GIS. 15. Automating the Process • Developing scripts and models to extract and updated information from GeoWater

  16. Also developing Metadata Discovery Service

  17. EPA Metadata Explorer

  18. What Next? • To finish it all!!!! • Thinking more about about the provision of data via web services and tying this up with our INSPIRE data service • So forsee a Node which will meet SEIS, INSPIRE and general data provision requirements.
