PRISM WP4a Visualization MeetingDKRZ / MPI-MaD Hamburg29th January 2002
Define the requirements for the data display capabilities of PRISM Define low-end and high-end graphics relating to the PRISM visualization tools Define the interfaces to the transformation processing library and to the data analysis part Which graphic packages and visualization tools are useful for PRISM and should be examined more closely regarding their features Which resources (manpower!) are available for the data display part Assign the lead responsibilities for the WP2c and WP4a deliverables
low-end remote server data access data analysis output library graphic output plot data transfer local client
high-end remote server data access netCDF file data transfer local client GUI
low-end high-end remote server remote server data access data access data analysis netCDF file output library data transfer graphic output plot local client data transfer GUI local client
Which graphic packages and visualization tools are useful for PRISM and should be examined more closely regarding their features • FERRET • GrADS • vis5d • ....
Assignment of the lead responsibilities of WP2c deliverables D2c1: Definition of the meta-data for the model output D2c2: Definition of the file formats supported for output from the PRISM system D2c3: Specification of the output library D2c4: Definition of the meta-data for the data exchange D2c5: Definition of the file format for the data exchange D2c6: Catalog of the most important diagnostic operations
D2c7: A demonstration of remote data access system will be implemented which allows for the user remote access to model output and for the model to read in ancillary data sets
Assignment of the lead responsibilities of WP4a deliverables D4a1: A first version of the output library which can be used in models, thus validating the user interface D4a2: An performance benchmark for the output library representative of PRISM D4a3: An optimised version of the output library which takes into account the performance enhancement possible on the various hardware used by the PRISM system D4a4: A remote data access system will be implemented which allows for the user remote access to model output and for the model to read in ancillary data sets
D4a5: Review of existing graphics packages and definition of • common requirements for graphics for ordinary analysis • purposes (low-end) and high-quality presentational • purposes (high-end) MONTH 12 • D4a6: A developed processing library that meets the • architectural requirements, delivers the functionality • defined in D4a5 and agrees with the data formats of • D4a2 • D4a7: Identification or provision of graphic packages which • meet the low-end and high-end graphics requirements • MONTH 30 • D4a8: A demonstration program including high-end and • low-end graphical display using the defined data formats MONTH 36 • D4a9: A final report providing advice to members on • development of existing systems to allow continued • integration and proposing future development areas
LOW-END: Ferret GrADS COCO CDAT NCAR Graphics GMT OpenDX HIGH-END: OpenDX VIS5D+ VIS AD Example applications and Interfaces to (commercial) packages IDL (HIP HOP)
