  2. The life of Emily Dickinson… Below is one of the only known pictures of Emily Dickinson. Emily Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts in December of 1830. She had a brother named Austin and a sister named Lavinia. She lived a simple life and barely left her house nor had many visitors. Never published her poems during her lifetime. After her death, her poems were found by her family. They were hidden away in her bedroom. Her poems reflect her loneliness and attitude toward life. They are usually talking of wanting something and often show her need of happiness. She died in May of 1886. The picture above is a portrait of the Dickinson children. Emily on the left, Austin in the middle, and Lavinia on the right.

  3. Nature, the gentlest mother, Nature, the gentlest mother, Impatient of no child, The feeblest or the waywardest, Her admonition mild In forest and the hill By traveller is heard, Restraining rampant squirrel Or too impetuous bird. How fair her conversation, A summer afternoon,-- Her household, her assembly; And when the sun goes down Her voice among the aisles Incites the timid prayer Of the minutest cricket, The most unworthy flower. When all the children sleep She turns as long away As will suffice to light her lamps; Then, bending from the sky With infinite affection And infiniter care, Her golden finger on her lip, Wills silence everywhere. Nature, the gentlest mother, By – Emily Dickinson
