MANHATTAN FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT INVESTMENT FOR THE PRESENT AND THE FUTURE
STATION 1 • ADDITION WAS BUILT IN 1996 • FIREHOUSE WAS STAFFED WITH 2 PEOPLE FOR 24 HOURS A DAY 365 DAYS A YEAR • CURRENTLY WE HAVE A MINIMUM OF 5 GUYS ON SHIFT EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR, OFTEN TIMES MORE WITH CANIDATES AND RIDERS
OVERVIEW • AS THE DEPARTMENT GROWS, THE NEEDS OF THE EMPLOYEES GROW AS WELL • OUR EMPLOYEES SPEND 24 HOURS A DAY (1/3 OF THEIR LIVES) AT WORK AND CALL THE FIREHOUSE THEIR SECOND HOME.
OVERVIEW • OVER THE YEARS WEAR AND TEAR ON THE FIREHOUSE HAS LED TO OUR LIVING QUARTERS BECOMING RUN DOWN • KNOWING THAT WE ARE GOING TO BE AT THIS FIREHOUSE FOR THE DURATION OF OUR CAREERS WE WOULD LIKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO PRESENT A REMODEL OF OUR LIVING QUARTERS
OVERVIEW • WE HAVE FORMED A COMMITTEE AND GATHERED SUGGESTIONS FROM ALL THREE SHIFTS IN ORDER TO PUT TOGETHER THIS PROPOSAL ON THE REMODEL OF OUR LIVING QUARTERS
KITCHEN/DAYROOM ALONG WITH THE DUTY CREW WE HAVE OTHER “GUESTS “ THAT CALL OUR LIVING QUARTERS HOME SEVERAL ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO CAPTURE THESE MICE THEY HAVE BORED ELABORATE TUNNELS THROUGHOUT OUR KITCHEN AND IT HAS BECOME A DAILY HOUSE DUTY TO CLEAN UP AFTER OUR FURY FRIENDS
WINDOWS WINDOWS DO NOT OPEN NO VENTILATION ON ENTIRE SECOND STORY CULINARY MISHAPS BECOME A PROBLEM BLOWN SEALS

SIZE FRIDGE IS INADEQUATE FOR THE AMOUNT OF FOOD EACH SEPARATE SHIFT BRINGS IN • PERSONNEL ARE TRYING TO EAT HEALTHY AND BRING IN MEALS AND OFTEN TIMES LEAVE LEFTOVER FOR FUTURE MEALS TO SAVE MONEY
STOVE KITCHEN APPLIANCES CONT. • WE CURRENTLY REPLACED OUR OLD STOVE WITH A USED ONE • STOVE ONLY HAD TWO OPERATING BURNERS • COOKING FOR 5-10 MEN/WOMEN AT A TIME REQUIRES A LARGER COOKING AREA
CABINETS • CURRENTLY OUR CABINET SPACE FOR AN ENTIRE SHIFT IS ONE OF THESE SMALL CABINETS • SAVING LEFTOVERS/ BUYING ITEMS ON SALE HELP THE PERSONNEL SAVE MONEY ON MEALS
HALLWAY/EMS/BUNKROOM • HOLES IN THE WALLS HAVE BEEN FILLED WITH SPRAY INSULATION TO TRY AND KEEP THE MICE OUT
BUNKROOM • NO VENTILATION • UP TO 8 PEOPLE IN AN INCLOSED ROOM WITH NO WINDOWS • AIRBORNE ILLNESSES • HORRIBLE SMELLS • BEDS ARE OLD AND NEED TO BE REPLACED
WASHER/DRYER • CURRENTLY WE WASH OUR GEAR AND OUR CLOTHES/BEDDING IN THE SAME WASHER AND DRYER • STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT INFECTIOUS DISEASE AND CANCER CAUSING AGENTS ARE SPREAD BY USING THIS PRACTICE
WASHER/DRYER • TO HELP PROTECT OUR PERSONNEL WE WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE A SEPERATE WASHER AND DRYER USED SOLEY FOR OUR CLOTHES, BEDDING, AND KITCHEN TOWELS.
OUR FIRE HOUSE IS NOT UP TO CODE LOCATED ABOVE THE BUNKROOM
BATHROOMS TILE IS WORN AND STAINED LARGER EMPLOYEES WOULD LIKE ELONGATED TOLIETS
BATHROOMS NO VENTILATION • CAUSING MOSITURE WHICH LEADS TO MOLD • PICTURE WAS TAKEN WITH SHOWERS NOT IN USE
