Lehi Green Tips: • During the time of year when we begin thinking about yards, gardens – and spring cleaning; we need to be aware that many cleaning products are hazardous to the environment when flushed or thrown away. • Green cleaning products can be made at home, for example: • Baking soda can be used as a gentle non-abrasive cleanser for kitchen counter tops, sinks, bathtubs, ovens, and fiberglass. • White vinegar can remove stains from the coffee pots, and is a good fabric softener. • Unscented soap will clean just about anything. Avoid using soaps which contain petroleum distillates. • Lemon is effective against most household bacteria. • Cornstarch can be used to clean windows, polish furniture, and shampoo carpets and rugs. You can see: • Your Energy Efficiency Report for the last 12 months. • Your energy use this month compared to the same month last year. • Update the size or age of your house or provide more information about your situation to make sure comparisons and accurate and meaningful. • Let us know what you are doing to conserve and we can track the success of your efforts for you. • Choose what graph will show up on your bill. Lehi Library Solar Electric System Facts: • The system has 21 - 245 watt solar modules; totaling 5,145 watts. • The modules will still have 80% of their production capacity at the end of 25 years. • The glass on the front of the modules is non-glare tempered glass similar to windshield glass. • Current solar technology is able to extract approximately 15% of the sun’s power. • The actual output of AC power from the 245 watt solar modules through the inverter is approx. 198 watts, or 81%. Lehi Green Tips: Using Solar (Photovoltaic) Systems Did you know? The solar electric system on the roof of the Lehi Library provides sufficient energy production to fully power an average single-family home (7,500 kWh per year). The Top 10 Ways You Can Conserve Water: • Indoor Water Use • Do not use your toilet as a wastebasket. Put all tissues, wrappers, diapers, cigarette butts, etc. in the trashcan. • Check the toilet for leaks. Is the water level too high? • Install low flow showerheads and/or other flow restriction devices. • Do not let the water run while shaving or brushing your teeth. Fill the sink or a glass instead. • When doing laundry, make sure you always wash a full load, most machines use 40 gallons or more for each load. • Outdoor Water Use • Water landscape only as much as required by the type of landscape and cut back on watering times in the spring and fall. • Group plants in terms of water need and zone sprinkler systems accordingly. • Prevent leaks by winterizing your system no later than early November. • Do not water on hot, sunny, and/or windy days. • Sweep sidewalks and driveways instead of using the hose. Lehi Green Tips: Water Conservation Did you know? Our community’s latest annual culinary water consumption was 1.18 billion gallons. We used 3.45 billion gallons of secondary water.
