  2. Search Engine • A system (software) that searchs a set of Data. • It can be a search engine on a Database. • Or it can be a search engine for the Internet.

  4. Boolean Operators • AND • OR • NOT • Quotation Search " " • NEARW • Complicated Search (Brackets)

  5. Words Before Using Boolean Operators

  7. AND • Combining two or more words. • Narrowing the search. • Increase the accuracy of the search.

  8. OR

  9. OR • Combining two or more words. • widening the search. • Helpful when searching for synonyms

  10. NOT

  11. NOT • Combining two or more words. • Narrowing the search. • Exclude unwanted words. • Increase the accuracy of the search.

  12. Quotation Search " " • More accuracy when searching for exact phrase. • Reduce false relation between the words • Narrowing the search. • Helpful when searching for names or places.

  13. NEAR • Like ANDbut more accurate. • Retrieves records where the terms joined by the operator are within a specified number of words of each other. • Reduce false relation between the words. • Helpful when searching for Sentences or places. • It doesn't sort words. All words have the same value. • NEAR is not common and most search engines doesn't support it.

  14. Complicated Search (Brackets) • More accurate results. • Narrowing the search. • Helpful when searching for three or more words.

  15. Truncation • What is Truncation? • Type of truncation: (right / center / left) • Advantage of using Truncation: • widening the search • search for other forms of the word. • Improve the search.

  16. Limiting and Filtering Result • Searching within the result. • Field search (Title, Author, publisher, … etc. • Limiting by data. • Limiting by regains (country, location). • Limiting by file type (Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, … etc).
