  1. Minutes for December 9, 2010 meeting Lab inspections went well, a few groups information was missing to be turned into Gina. One suggestion was made to assign chemists to floors where lots of chemicals are used so that those inspecting have the right knowledge for those chemical heavy floors. It was agreed we need a standardized reporting form to turn in for each Unit as a summary. Earl suggested a program he has been given which allows reporting forms to be printed and even can serve as an interface if needed for our safety inspections and the check list criteria. Chemical fume hoods should be left on at all times in the building for ventilation purposes All hazardous waste containers not being used can be turned in, but once a container is full a 72hour time limit is required to transport it to the “marshalling facility” (the chemical storage shed out back). A chemical disposal should happen at least once a year, however, having a $2500.00 disposal twice a year would allow for waste reduction without any procurement issues and would allow waste to be removed in a more efficient time frame Goals & objectives for FY11- FSIS has already trained 8 people in CPR and they are initiating a pallet recycling program through their agenda. All were okay with our goals and objectives for FY11 CPRP- Need to have alarm system tied into new FSIS building outback, need to update eyewashes and floor drainage system Accident reporting: Only list if they have worker’s comp case or it is above a first aid issue based on OSHA regulations, no small first aid incident reporting needed at this time for accident reporting within the building Please don’t put SS #’s on CA-1 forms (accident report form), there isn't’ any need Chemical inventories are due as well as the pathogen lists coming January 31st, Cesar to contact those in charge of reporting for each Unit Safety training for RRC: Mentioned that PPE & fire response should be mandatory, consider giving session sections though some sessions would be mandatory for building safety annual refresher Biosafety cabinets- Ask Kelly Bero if having individual contractor would require contracting approval, etc. and how we would coordinate that per Unit. Others are getting quotes from companies they use to see who might be the cheapest for doing this group wide hood check Gel Red- suggestion to change was taken with no rebuttal MSDS- Agreed that each lab will have their own MSDS logs as well as having an internal building MSDS log for building wide use. Electronic MSDS with .pdf attachments is okay as long as it is easily accessible on computer desktop at all times Eyewash checks- Agreed that personnel for ARS and FSIS do their own eyewash checks per lab. FSE will continue to do checks until contract change made. OSHA requires a hanging tag from the eyewash or shower station. Hanging tags should be kept for records after they are filled and new one replaced. FSE to provide those tags for building. Suggestion to put tags in stock room for ease of getting tag when needed(for free). Also agreed that FSE will continue quarterly shower flow tests as well as monthly fire extinguisher checks. New phone system- does it allow a message to be posted for all RRC in inclement weather situations? We do not think so. Emergency broadcasting system- All in favor of volunteer reporting of cell phone numbers to establish an emergency broadcast system via cell phones, etc., for inclement weather, hazards, or any emergency building notifications. Chemical redistribution room- Agreed upon by all as a good idea and would allow for reduction in chemical waste as well as allow for ease of chemical disposal when disposal time comes around twice a year. Bar coding system is a possibility for chemicals in this room. Electronic recycling Day- Viewed as a good and positive idea for our community benefit Cows to Kilowatts- received well but more to review for future work Asked for continued volunteer help in transporting recyclables to benefit shelters and other drop off sites in our community
