Wide-scale killing and destruction followed East Timor's vote to become independent of Indonesia. This resulted in a number of refugee camps holding thousands of destitute people in West Timor in and around the city of Kupang. Kupang
Maria Endang (right) has a heart for the children of refugees from East Timor. In 1999 Maria went to Kupang to minister to people who were fleeing the violence in East Timor. Over 100,000 of these people have remained in the area of the city of Kupang. Baptists first ministered through the IMB and now through an Indonesian foundation named Rebana. This foundation was established by the human needs workers employed in the Jakarta office of the IMB. Boneanak Village for Refugees

Nuelbaki Refugee Camp – 275 to 300 children attend CUBS to study lessons such as “Forgiving and Loving Your Enemies” Lev. 19:17-18. 8 to 15 youth & adults attend “In-depth Bible Study Group”
Nuelbaki Refugee Camp – Nutritional supplements are distributed – eggs, milk, soybeans, and cookies

Sulamo Refugee Camp – 150 to 200 children attend CUBS to study lessons such as “The Lord loves All Ethnic Groups” Nehemiah 1:6

Tulakaboak Refugee Camp-150 to 250 children attend CUBS25 to 43 youth and adults attend the “In-depth Bible Study Group” to study lessons such as “Keep on Believing in Jesus.” Isaiah 40:27-31

Needs and Prayer Requests • Pray that the Lord will give Maria Kupang continued and increasing wisdom and strength to serve in these ministries. • Needs for House of Joy: • Books for a library for the children. • Another computer for the children to study computer science. • To begin an agriculture and small animal project. • Prayer Requests for House of Joy: • Pray that the House of Joy will be blessed with house parents who have a heart of service. • Pray that the building of the House of Joy will be completed. • Pray that the children and Rudy, Gius, Rosmawaty, Pipit, and Mama Dor will be healthy. • Pray for the construction team that is led by Mr. Jek.
