  3. What is clay? Clay is made of very fine particles of decomposed rock that stick together.  Clay can be found in abundance all around the world.

  4. When clay is wet, it is easy to mold & form. As it dries the water in the clay evaporates & the clay hardens. • Before it goes in the kiln, your project is called greenware. • Firing is the term for heating the clay in the kiln.  This first firing is called the Bisque Firing. • The heat from the kiln causes the water to evaporate from the clay, the clay becomes hard. Greenware to bisque

  5. How hot is the kiln?

  6. Glaze is the paint used to color clay projects • There are small particles of silica in our colorful glazes, when they are heated in the kiln they will melt and transform into glass! After 48 hours in the hot kiln, these bisque projects are ready for glaze!
