ALTP • A District #241 program for students with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 21 who have completed their 12th grade year at Albert Lea High School. • We currently have two students enrolled in the program who completed 12th grade at Glenville- Emmons Schools in 2011
The ALTP offers a functional and vocational focus of skills necessary for increased independence athome, in the workplace, and the community.
AM Schedule • Working through Cedar Valley Services in Albert Lea as part of a school to work program. • Working through District #241 Work Based Learning Program in community employment. • Attending Albert Lea High School or ALC for credit recovery to complete graduation requirements. Mornings are spent involved in programming to meet individual vocational needs:
PM Schedule • The ALT P is a part of Albert Lea High School and provides students with experiences beyond the high school setting. “Housing our program at Riverland was a major goal for us.” • Alternate environment encourages adult behaviors and adult interactions • Student pride develops self confidence and encourages attendance past 12th grade Afternoonsare spent participating in the Albert Lea Transitions Program housed at Riverland Community College in Albert Lea.

Curriculum • Employment Career Planning & Employment Assistance: • Vocational Rehabilitation, Department of Human Services, Cedar Valley Services, Social Security (SSI) • resumes, cover letters, interviews, applications, job site visits Focuses on the five Transitions areas which are the focus of the Transitions Individual Education Plan or IEP.
Post Secondary Training • Community College or Technical Courses • Community Education Courses • Labor Laws and Workplace Safety • (District #241 Work Based Learning Coordinator assists with this by working three hours per week with those students who are capable of working independently within the community.)

Newsworthy… • Riverland bowling activity at Holiday Lanes brings team from the ALTP as participants • Menu planning, grocery shopping, cooks in the kitchen ends in five course sit down meal • December 2nd will bring Albert Lea Transitions class together with Austin Transitions class in bowling outing • Adult behavior becomes the norm with 18 to 21 year population • Lifelong friendships develop through participation in AL Transitions Program
