  2. The BRICKS project and its Community BRICKS is an IP (IST Program) devoted to create a new Digital Library of European Digital Memory which allow wide sharing of knowledge on CH among people. How to aggregate a critical mass around BRICKS? The building of the BRICKS Community (BC) has been one of the first target of the project spirit from its beginning. Silvia Boi Metaware (IT)

The BRICKS Community WHAT IS?: The BRICKS Community is the aggregation of a large open community of users WHY?: • Tobuild consensus and interest around the BRICKS initiative • To involve a critical mass in the BRICKS network • The dimension of the BRICKS Communitywill have impact on the success of the BRICKS business model Silvia Boi Metaware (IT)

  4. The BRICKS Community • BC is opento all the users interested. Currently we have • Cultural organisation • Research centres • Individuals (researches) • Projects • Technoclogical provider. • BC is flexible, because allows different grade and steps of involvementin the project activities without administrative overheads. The BRICKS Community membership The BRICKS Community foresees two kinds of membership, according to distinct needs of involvements and different possibilities to participate to the project activities: • User member- expresses interest on the BRICKS concept and idea, receiving results, increasing in visibility and participating to the validation of the BRICKS results (Letter of Intent) • Developer member- participates tothe integration of results and the active development of dedicated services in the frame of the project activities (Memorandum of Understanding) Silvia Boi Metaware (IT)

A concrete tool for the success of the project: • The BC creates consensus around the BRICKS initiative and solutions • BC involves a critical mass of validators for the BRICKS results • BC gives remarkable visibility to the BRICKS solutions in European cultural organisations • The BRICKS members are potential user/customers for the futuresustainability and for the future exploitation of the project results Silvia Boi Metaware (IT)

A concrete strategy to assure concrete services to the members Services: • Sharing experiences and problems (i.e. discussion area, promotional area) • Obtaining worldwide visibility (personal member area) • Being updated on new solutions and strategies (delivery of results) • Early adoption of the BRICKS results (validation) • Joining the B-network (B-node and provide content) Tools: • Dedicated web-site at www.brickscommunity.org • Focused events and workshops • Target training courses • B-demonstrators and selected prototypes Silvia Boi Metaware (IT)

A 3 phases aggregation strategy During the duration of the project a 3 phases strategy of aggregation has been foreseen: • Initial aggregation of a critical mass through the dissemination of the BRICKS mission and concept. • Continuousaggregationand involvement of members in the validation activities (delivery of the first results) • Definition of a final business plan: services, costs, revenue in order to involve in the system as many members as possible Silvia Boi Metaware (IT)

BRICKS Community actions • Kick-off of the BRICKS Community (Lisbon-May 2006) • Focused events (Amsterdam, Moscow, Milan, etc.) • Second Booklet (final draft) • New issues of the Newsletter (3rd issue) • New articles and press (14 press releases, 2 planned publications) Silvia Boi Metaware (IT)
