  1. DELPHI Packard Electric Systems Metri-pack Cable Seal Processing Change • Background: • DPES is continuing to transition the application of cable seals on automatic wire processing equipment from Mylar strip to loose piece application. This processing change eliminates the need for the non-value add Mylar carrier strip. • Same exact product design as exists today, but needed to incorporate non-functional changes in order to process by loose piece application. • The new seals are Design validated and Product validation will be complete by about 11/30/00. • Controls are in place such that implementation of new seals cannot proceed until Product validation is complete. • Lowered silicone oil content from 4% to 2%, to be consistent with the industry standard. DPES originally increased oil content in order to improve the process for loading seals to the Mylar strip. • Addition of a textured surface to the flat (rear) end of the seal to prevent sticking in the Loose Piece Seal Applicators. This surface is a non-sealing surface and does not affect fit or function. • Is this type of seal processing change something new to DPES? No • In 1999, DPES started the transition of the GT connection system cable seals from Mylar to loose piece application. DPES is simply continuing this transition with other DPES seals that are currently on Mylar. • Globally, Delphi-Europe and other DPES operations have been processing by loose piece application for more than 5 years. Competitors also utilize loose piece seals. • New part numbers have been created for the loose piece application seals for the control of internal DPES processing.

  2. DELPHI Packard Electric Systems Metri-pack Cable Seal Processing Change • Recommendation: • Approve Delphi-P Component level PTR’s to allow this transition in seal processing to proceed. • Per the responsible Component Engineer, this is a Zero risk change at the vehicle level. • Note: The 1999 GT seal transition to loose piece has presented Zero problems or concerns. The same exact transition is planned for the Metri-pack seals. • PTR Numbers: 2174 through 2196. There are 22 PTR’s, one for each seal part number. • DPES needs the support from ALL of it’s customers for this transition to occur along with the seal part number changes. • Where the Design Record is 3D: No customer EWO or drafting effort is required. • The seal part numbers are not specified in the 3D Design Record. • Where the Design Record is 2D print: Need a customer EWO to authorize 2D print changes. • The seal part numbers are specified on the 2D Design Record

  3. DELPHI Packard Electric Systems Metri-pack Cable Seal Processing Change • Details: • Note: Once approved, DPES will change product prints to specify the new loose piece seals. An equivalent construction note will be added to the component design print to allow usage of old part numbers to exhaust stock and to control interchangeability between Mylar and loose piece seals.
