History: • June 1999: CBATTC initiative on the creation of a local PR Certification Commission. • July-October 1999: Communication with NAADAC (National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors). • December 3, 1999: Meeting with representatives and Gerry Schmidt, Chair of the NAADAC Certification Commission in PR.

  3. January 28, 2000: Meeting with local certification Committee to work on requirements. • February 2000: Review of requirements for the levels of certification. • May 31, 2000: Incorporation of local PR C.C. • June-December, 2000: Creation of local PR Certification Commission Policies and Procedures, application and promotional material. • January-December, 2001: Grand fathering period.

  4. Certifications at the grandfather period 2001: • Level I = 91 • Level II = 127 • Level III= + 274 TOTAL = 492

  5. What is NAADAC? • NAADAC is the National Association on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors. • Over 30 years, NAADAC have represent substance abuse professionals in national and international forums. • For more information on membership, applications and contact, please visit: www.naadac.org.

  6. PR Certification Commission Our objectives are: 1. To protect the clients. 2. Identify and certify highly qualified professionals and offer the credentials in three levels 3. Keep the professionalism in the substance abuse field.

  7. Commissioners • Members are representatives of different areas. • It will represent a diversity and balance in it members. • The work will be ad-honorem.

  8. Functions of the Commission • Develop the credentials and requirements. • Evaluate the applications. • Certify the professionals. • Have regular (monthly) meetings. • Coordinate activities • Represent the Commission in different agencies.

  9. Levels of Certification • Certified Professional onPsychoactiveSubstances • Level I:, CPPS- I: HighSchool • Level II:, CPPS- II: Bachelors • Level III:, CPPS- III: Masters/Doctorate

  10. Certification Process 2009 • Fill out the application and sent it with all the requirements to the Commission. • The Commission will open a file for each applicant. • This file will be evaluated and recommended for the certification. • The Commission will notify the applicant the result of the evaluation. • The applicant will send the payment for the certification (depends on the level). • The Commission will send the certification via mail.
