  3. p. 25 • What did the Adena build? The Adena built burial mounds.

  4. p. 25 2. What were Hopewell settlements like? Hopewell settlements were very small and often contained mounds in the shape of animals.

  5. p. 25 3. What is Serpent Mound? Serpent Mound is a perfectly preserved example of a Hopewell mound. It is a huge mound shaped like a snake.

  6. p. 25 4. What did the Hopewell celebrate? The Hopewell celebrated life, nature, and rebirth.

  7. p. 25 5. Who did the Hopewell begin to trade with? The Hopewell began to trade with settlements throughout the areas east of the Mississippi River.
