Ultimate Guide to The London Zoo – All You Need to Know The London Zoo, sometimes called Regent’s Zoo, is not only the world’s oldest scientific zoo, but is a historically relevant one as well. The zoo opened on the 27th of April 1828 and was initially expected to be a collection of specimens for scientific study. In 1847, it was officially opened to the public, during which time the animals house at the Tower of London were transferred to the zoo.
