TI-83 for Grade 11 Math 2 uses Numerical Computation Graphing
Numerical Computation Example: Compute 1) 2*7 Step 1: Push 2 button Step 2: Push MULTIPLYbutton Step 3: Push 7 button Step 4: Push Enter Button
Numerical Example #2 Example: Compute: Step 1: Push “2nd” button Step 2:Push the “x²” button Step 3: Push 4&9 buttons Step 4: Push “)” button Step 5: Push “Enter” button
Numerical Example #3 Example Compute: Step 1: Push “(“ , “3” , “divide”, “4”, “)” Step 2: Push “plus” button Step 3: Push “(“ , “5” , “divide”, “8”, “)” Step 4: Push the “Enter” button
Converting Decimals to Fractions • Using the TI-83 we can convert decimals to nice fractions. • From our last example Push the “Math” button Push “Enter” • Finally Push “Enter” again
Graphing Example Graphing f(x)= 2x²-7x+3 *If you want to graph a function press the “Y=” button *You should get a screen that looks like *Enter 2x²-7x+3 into this screen
Graphing Example • Enter 2x²-7x+3 by pushing “2” , “Variable”, “x²”, “minus”,”7”. “Variable” “plus”, “3” Push “Graph”
Graphing Example: Changing the View We can change the viewing window to get better view Push the “Window” button Change Xmin and Xmax Xmin=-3 Xmax=5 (Use arrow keys and clear buttons) Hit the “Graph” Button
Solving the equation:2x²-7x+3=0 When setting f(x)=0 we are looking for the x-intercept or the zeros(roots) (x-intercept , zero, root) (x-intercept , zero, root)
Finding the zeros(roots) using TI-83 • Press “2nd” and “Trace” buttons The screen should change to this.. Go to the zero option and hit Enter.
Finding the zeros(roots) using TI-83 The CPU is asking for a left bound. Move the “DOT” to the left side of one of the roots. Use the arrow keys to move the dot.
Finding the zeros(roots) using TI-83 • Jjjj roots(zeros) • (2 roots in this example) The dot is now on the left side of one of the roots. Push Enter. The CPU is asking for a right bound Move the dot to the right side of root.
Finding the zeros(roots) using TI-83 • Kk (zero that we are trying to calculate) The dot is now on the right side of the root. Push Enter. The CPU is asking for a Guess? Push Enter again.
Finding the zeros(roots) using TI-83 • The CPU has calculated one of the roots to be 0.5 • Notice that the Y-Value =0. Y=0 is the definition of a X-intercept. Go find the other root.
Finding the zeros(roots) using TI-83 Here is the other root.
