What does all this mean? • 1- Patients with 30< GFR < 45 can now receive full dose contrast MRIs. • Previously half dose or no contrast • 2- Patients with 30< GFR < 45 who require a CT, now can get a C+ MRI instead of C- CT. • Huge diagnostic advantage. Examples: • CTAs (hepatic arteries, PE studies) • Abscesses, septic workups… • Acute abdomen, Acute chest syndrome…

  5. How can I take advantage? • Keep in mind to request MRI C+ for all patients unless GFR < 30 • Greatly simplifies ordering • Keep in mind to ask for MRI C+ instead of the “limited” CT non-contrast if 30< GFR < 45 . • Liberally call the radiologists for advice until the practice is well established.
