Digital Vita: An Introduction for the SPIRiT consortium Linda Schmandt, MA, MS Titus Schleyer, DMD, PhD January 21, 2011
Agenda • Introduction: Digital Vita differences • Digital Vita demo • SPIRiT plans • Q & A
How is Digital Vita different? • Based on extensive requirements/needs analysis • How do scientists find collaborators? • How do/Why don’t scientists use current electronic systems? • Ongoing evaluation • Creation of CV and NIH biosketch provide value
Requirements • Effort balanced with perceived benefit • Profiles comprehensive and up-to-date • Model proximity using factors beyond co-authorship. • Assessment of compatibility, work style and other “soft” traits. • Accommodate preferences for privacy and public availability of information. • Search effectively across disciplines. • Facilitate non-intuitive connections.
Implementation • “Soft” rollout beginning 10/2009 • Updated Jan, 2010 for new NIH biosketch requirements • Currently 484 accounts, 245 logins in Dec ’10 • Version 2.0 release late Jan/early Feb adds social networking features
Digital Vita for SPIRiT • Modify, document for open-source use • Integrate CV and biosketch features with VIVO • Implement at 1-2 sites in 2011-12 program year.
