The Big Quiz • Concentrate & listen carefully to the questions then you must write the correct answer on your paper • Do not ask others for the answer as that merely defeats the purpose of showing you and me where you are in your learning! • Do not show your answers to anyone else. • When I say time up then you must swap papers with your partner for peer marking. • The person marking must listen carefully to mark appropriately then total the marks sign the paper eg marker and then hand back. • The pupil with the most points wins a prize for break time. NB: All of you are targeted for a pass and some a merit so please ensure you do what is expected of you to make the grade. Bighead • Be aware(GCSE G/F) – I can understand simple key words (very basic knowledge) • Illustrate (GCSE E) – I can explain in detail what key words mean • Give examples (GCSE D) – I can give real examples of how people use key words, concepts/ ideas etc • Have a conclusion (PASS/GCSE C) – I can show 2 sides of an argument and make my own conclusion from them. • Evaluate (Merit/GCSE B) – I can weigh up the value, quality or importance of an idea and use this to make my conclusion stronger. • Analyse (Distinction/GCSE A) – I can look more deeply into an argument or idea to understand all parts of it and then evaluate each part before concluding. • Develop your ideas (GCSE A*) – Ican take an idea or concept beyond the context in which it has been given and use other ideas to compare it to. Care needs that influence Self Concept –We discussed all of these last lesson • Recognition of Diversity • Active Support • Promotion of Independence • Promotion of Choice • Respect and Dignity • Protection • Individuals need to value themselves eg have a high sense of self esteem. • Care workers must practice a range of approaches when working with clients/ service users to support their self concept and self esteem needs. Multidisciplinary Care: care provided by a range of different agencies and professional carers eg social work, nursing, social care, psychiatry occupational therapy, speech therapy, medicine
Formal & Informal care – what is the difference? • Formal Care This means professional paid care and can include a range of providers and multidisciplinary teams. Formal care can be provided into 3 sectors: Public, Private & voluntary (not for profit) See P 272 for more information. • Informal Care This is the care provided by family, friends, neighbours or others. This is usually unpaid and not overseen by any organisation. There are several million informal cares in the UK eg a child may care for a disabled parent Independent learning
Independent learning Task 4 P4/ M3/D2 • Explain the different types of care intervention and how they can be applied to individuals at different life stages. How do these interventions improve the day to day lives of individuals? (P4) • Explain the difference between formal and informal care giving examples of each. • Now explain the potential similarities & differences of individual care needs of individuals at different life stages, and the support given by care workers to support service users of different ages. (P4/ M3 – more detail) • Now go on to explain how meeting individual care needs can improve the individual’s self-conceptby producing two care plans for two service users (D2) You will need to read P 272 - 275 of your books You can also use the Help sheet provided Ensure you title your work Unit 8: Task 4 And do not forget to put your name at the top of each sheet. Task 1 In order to complete these tasks you must read Pages 248 – 262 in your books first make notes of PIES for each life stage. Scenario You have been asked by a popular health magazine to prepare a series of articles for publication which explores the key aspects of physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. Task 1 (P1, M1) 1 Make a poster which shows the 7 life stages 2 In your magazine article , identify the key aspects of physical, Intellectual, Emotional and social development at each of the life stages. Include images and diagrams as appropriate. (To achieve M1 you will need to provide a detailed response which outlines key aspects of development). You can use the help sheet and website resources provided too. Child Development Milestone

Completing Task P3 & P2 TASK 3 Identify the key aspects of physical, intellectual, emotional and social development that takes place through the life stages. (P1,M1,D1) P3 - Task : Define self-image and self-esteem. P3 Then go on to identify 8 factors that may influence a person’s self-concept such as Charlie’s. Factors include age, appearance, gender, culture, income, environment and education (P3) TASK 2 (p2) What are life events? Make a table showing predictable and unpredictable life events. For each one discuss possible positive and negative effects on growth and development.
