What do Medical Illustrators do? • Medical Illustrators use computer graphics programs to design illustrations for publications such as… • medical textbooks • scientific journals • instructional videos • Presentations • Exhibits
Education • Most have Master’s degree from an accredited two-year graduate program in Medical Illustration
Working Conditions • Wide range of settings • Many work for medical schools or large academic health center • Others work in hospitals, clinics, medical legal firms, publishing companies, research institutions, veterinary schools, or medical education companies. • Some work by themselves, and some work with a team
Desirable Characteristics • The ability to visualize their illustration
Where Can Schooling Be Attained? • Currently, there are four programs in the United States and one in Canada that are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) • Each program accepts 16 or fewer students each year, so entrance into the schools is very competitive
Why I Chose This Career • I chose to research the position of Medical Illustrator because I have an interest in graphic design and screen printing
