  1. Attaining Your Potential • A dwelling of God in the Spirit “in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:22) • 1 Corinthians 14:25 As they listen, … they will fall to their knees and worship God, declaring, “God is truly here among you.”

  3. I. Spiritual Gifts • Given to Each One - 1 Corinthians 12:1, 4-6 • Don’t misunderstand special abilities the Spirit gives • A spiritual gift is given to each one so we can help each other

  4. Fruit motivating gifts – 1 Corinthians 12:31; 13:1-2, 8-10, 14:1 • Earnestly desire the most helpful gifts • Gifts without love – noisy nothing • When full understanding comes the partial will be useless • Let love be your highest goal – not demonstrations • Desire special abilities the Spirit gives

  5. II. God Among You • 1 Corinthians 14 • As evidenced by the special abilities the Spirit gives • Tongues • Prophecy • Proper use in the gathering for everyone to benefit

  6. Tongues – speaking in an unknown language • Many languages in the world • Tongues of men and of angels • Two types • People speaking to God – praying by the Spirit • God speaking to people – needing interpretation

  7. People speaking to God • Talking only to God since people wont be able to understand you • Speaking by the power of the Spirit • Speaking mysteries • Strengthened personally • Not helpful to others – they can’t understand • Your spirit is praying, but your mind is not understanding

  8. Romans 8:26 - 27 26And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.  27And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.  • 1 Corinthians 14:14 AMPLIFIED – For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit [by the Holy Spirit in me] prays…

  9. Ephesians 6:18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. 

  10. God speaking to people • It is written – “I will speak to my own people through strange languages and through lips of foreigners” • Requires interpretation • Prophecy > tongues • Prophecy = Tongues with interpretation

  11. For unbelievers • A sign • Secrets of the heart exposed • Convicted of sin • Worship God • Declaring – God is truly here among you • For believers • Strengthen the whole church

  12. III. What to do • People speaking to God • Pray in the Spirit • Pray with understanding • Sing in the Spirit • Sing with understanding

  13. God speaking to people • Speaking in tongues • In an orderly manner - You can control your spirit • God is not a God of disorder • Pray that you can interpret • Someone else may interpret

  14. Prophesy • Evaluate what is said • 1 Thessalonians 5:19 - 21 19Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.  20Do not scoff at prophecies,  21but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.  • Everyone learn and be encouraged • Be eager to prophesy and don’t forbid speaking in tongues

  15. V.26 – let’s summarize – when you meet… • One will sing • Another will teach • Another will tell a special revelation • One will speak in tongues • Another will interpret • Everything done must strengthen all of you

Invitations and Evidences of God among you • Drawing near to God • Honest worship • Expectancy of his presence • Respect of his presence • Spirit teaching you • Manifestations of gifts • Quenching the Holy Spirit • Disregard of his presence • Restricting His activity • Manufacturing manifestations
