Principles of Firstthings • The Law of firstthings is woven into the fabric of life • Calvary is our salvation story. • Giving God the first slices of our life reminds us of the Lord’s saving grace. • Giving should not be an afterthought; it should be our first thought. • Giving God the first of our lives brings eternal blessing on what remains.
Our “Firstthings” • Time • Talent • Treasure
Life in God’s Laws 7The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
Life in God’s Laws 9The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous. 10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. 11 By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward (Psalm 19:7-11 NIV).
Life in God’s Laws Lord, you are very kind; give me life by your laws, (Psalm 119:156 (NCV).
Law of Giving For we are His creation—created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them, (Ephesians 2:10 HCSB). Law of Purpose
“Life without a purpose is a languid, drifting thing; every day we ought to review our purpose, saying to ourselves, 'This day let me make a sound beginning, for what we have done up till now is nothing!'” (Thomas A’kempis)
Law of Giving You’ll not likely go wrong here if you keep remembering that our Master said, ‘You’re far happier giving than getting.’ (Acts 20:35 The Message) Law of Joy
Law of Giving Freely you have received, freely give, (Matthew 10:8 NIV). You have been treated generously, so live generously, (The Message). Law of Generosity
"If I leave behind me ten pounds, you and all mankind [can] bear witness against me, that I have lived and died a thief and a robber,“ (John Wesley)
Law of Giving Give, and you will receive. You will be given much. Pressed down, shaken together, and running over, it will spill into your lap. The way you give to others is the way God will give to you, (Luke 6:38 NCV). Law of Sowing and Reaping
What’s Your ROI? A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed, (Proverbs 11:25 NIV).
Law of Giving 34 Jesus asked, “How much bread do you have?”They replied, “Seven loaves, and a few small fish.”35 So Jesus told all the people to sit down on the ground.36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, thanked God for them, and broke them into pieces. He gave them to the disciples, who distributed the food to the crowd.37 They all ate as much as they wanted. Afterward, the disciples picked up seven large baskets of leftover food, (Matthew 15:34–37 NLT) Law of Multiplication
Law of Giving 2 When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get, (Matthew 6:2 NLT) Law of Motive
Law of Giving 17 Tell those rich in this world’s wealth to quit being so full of themselves and so obsessed with money, which is here today and gone tomorrow. Tell them to go after God, who piles on all the riches we could ever manage—18 to do good [talent],to be rich in helping others[time], to be extravagantly generous [treasure].19 If they do that, they’ll build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life, (1 Timothy 6:17–19 The Message).
