THE RESPONSIBLE GAMING DAY, Brussels February 2009 How does UEFA tackle match fixing due to betting activities risk? 1. FRAUD DETECT • Suspicion of heavy betting on a UEFA competition match (Alert by one of the UEFA Fraud Detection System partners) communicated to the UEFA Disciplinary Services. • Examine plausibility of data: how? • UEFA alerts the UEFA match official (delegate) on site. • Delegate warns clubs concerned (and the referee if need) that according to information in his possession, some players or club officials may have fixed the match. DISCIPLINARY PROCEEDINGS (People suspected (subject to UEFA’s jurisdiction, see Article 5 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations) (Denunciation / alert) • Disciplinary proceedings opened • Investigation conducted by a disciplinary inspector • Conclusion of the disciplinary inspector for the attention of the Control and Disciplinary Body • Decision of the Control and Disciplinary Body without a hearing (first instance) • Possible appeal to the Appeals Body (second instance) • Possible appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)
