Geometric magnetic frustration is a common feature of modern magnetic systems. The understanding of the physical properties of these systems and how frustration is relieved is an active area of research. We have investigated the far infrared properties of the material CdCr2O4 by measuring its transmission and reflection of light as a function of temperature. We find that the mechanism that relieves frustration at the magnetic transition also causes one infrared phonon to split. We have compared this work with previous results2 of our collaboration. aSpin-phonon coupling in frustrated magnet CdCr2O4 Rolando Valdés Aguilar, Andrei Sushkov, H. Dennis Drew, G-W. Chern1, O.
