HSOP Update • Examining Student Work (upcoming) • May 5, 7, 8, 9 (DIISD, WMISD, Lansing, Livonia) • 1 day: Using student work samples, participants will follow a protocol for examining student work and explore a process for building the necessary skills and culture for collaborative assessment work. • Periodic Email contacts
HSOP Participants • Approximately 500 participants • 22 teams – ISD/RESD/RESA/Professional Organization • 48 teams – District/School • 16 teams – Charter/Private • 30 participants taking for graduate class
Delaware Enhanced Assessment Grant • MI one of 11 states in grant • 4 high priority high schools selected for study • All have been to the 2 day HSOP • All have access to trained support network • All received the additional new CAFL facilitators handbook • 2 attended the Building Common Assessment training • 1 attended the follow-up videoconference • 2 have active learning teams • 2 unclear
HS - MASS • High School Math & Science Success • Math/Science Centers • Using HS companion documents and formative assessments to help student with new Michigan Merit Curriculum • Using training from HSOP
CCSSO – FAST/SCASS • Council of Chief State School Officials • Formative Assessment for Students and Teachers/State Collaborative on Assessment and Student Standards • MI representation on professional development and policy subgroups • Draft definition of formative assessment – suggestions needed by end of January • Thoughts?
EOC Update • Continue to develop prototype assessments • Algebra I, Geom, Bio, Eng 9, Civics – May 2008 • Alg II, Chem, Eng 10, Am History plus Geog – May 2009 • Stats & Prop, Earth Science, Eng 11, World Hist plus Geog – May 2010 • Pre-Cal, Physics, Eng 12, Econ – May 2011 • Available on theOEAA secure site • Assessments to be kept secure, meaning not to be available to students or anyone outside the assessment period
EOC Update • Paper copies kept in locked storage or shredded • Districts can: • Use the entire prototype intact • Use items form the prototype mingled with district-developed • Use their own district developed/approved assessments intact • If prototypes items are stored in a local item bank, item bank must be secure; students should not have access to the item bank and teachers should not teach to the specific items in the bank.
