APNIC - Regional Internet Registry • APNIC is the RIR for the Asia Pacific • Regional authority for Internet Resource distribution • IP addresses and AS numbers • Founded in 1993 in the ‘Internet tradition’ of ‘bottom-up’ consensus decision making • Non-profit, neutral, independent • Self regulation has supported Internet growth to date • Operates in 62 economies in AP region • 24 are in the Pacific

Policy development – does it affect me? • Recent policy changes important to the Pacific • prop-007-v001Private customer assignment records • Customer assignment records by default will no longer be publicly accessible in the APNIC database. Registrations must be stored ‘privately’ in MyAPNIC Implementation is scheduled Sept 2004 - this will affect you! • prop-014-v001 Lowering IPv4 minimum allocation size & initial allocation criteria in AP region • Makes it easier for smaller ISPs to qualify for IP addresses • Good news for the Islands!
