Reflexive verbs • Reflexive verbs describe actions done to or for oneself. Eg. I dry myself. • In English, reflexive pronouns end in-self or -selves and show that the subject both does and receives the action of the verb. • Reflexive Pronouns: me nos teos se se
Reflexive verbs • When you conjugate reflexive verbs, the pronoun appears before the conjugated verb. • How do we know if the verb is reflexive? Lavarse: melavonoslavamos telavas oslaváis selava selavan -Use a definite article with body parts! Yo me lavolacara. -If it is a reflexive verb you must have the reflexive pronoun!!!!
Stem-changing verbs • Acostarse (o-ue) me acuestonosacostamos teacuestasosacostáis se acuesta se acuestan • Despertarse (e-ie) me despiertonosdespertamos tedespiertasosdespertáis se despierta se despiertan

When do you use a reflexive verb?When do you not use a reflexive verb? • Llamarse –to call oneself • Llamar-to call someone on the phone, the dog etc.. • Despertarse-to wake yourself up • Despertar-to wake someone else up • Lavarse-to wash yourself (body) • Lavar-to wash the dishes, to wash the dog

Two verbs in a sentence!!! • Rule: When you have two verbs in a sentence. The first verb is conjugated and the second is in the infinitive. Ex. Yoquierocomer la pizza. Ella piensair al cine.
TWO VERBS with REFLEXIVE VERBS • Remember when the second verb is a reflexive verb then you must make sure your pronoun agrees with the subject. • You can attach the pronoun to the infinitive. -Túquieresdespertartea lascinco. OR You can also place the pronoun beforethe conjugated verb. -Tútequieresdespertar a lascinco.
Some verbs you should know that sometimes you will use with other verbs: • Querer(e-ie) • Necesitar • Pensar(e-ie) • Poder(o-ue) -Yoquierohablar. -Ella necesita comer. -Nosotrospensamosdespertarnostemprano. • Tenerque+infinitive • Hay que+infinitive • Esimportante+infinitive • EsBueno+infinitive • Esnecesario+infinitive -Yotengoquecepillarme los dientes. -Esnecesariolavarse la cara antes de salir la casa.
Translate • I want to take a bath every morning. • He needs to go to bed early. • You can get ready now. • You plan to wake up early. • I can take a shower in the morning. • You have to brush your teeth. • We want to put the red shoes on.
Antes de & Después de • Rule: After antes de and después de you use the infinitive of the verb. • If it is a reflexive verb remember you must change the pronoun according to the subject. -Después de comer, yo me cepillo los dientes. -Antes de lavarme la cara y (yo) me cepillo los dientes.
Translate • Before leaving home, I shave. • He goes to bed, after he turns off the light. • After taking a shower, you dry yourself. • I wash my hair, after taking a bath. • After waking up, we eat. • After eating, you brush your teeth. • You put on your clothes, before you go out.
Write about your daily routine • 12 sentences • Use at least 7 reflexive verbs • Use at least 4 of the clarify sequence of events/how often you do things vocabulary. • Use antes de or después de • 2 sentences must have two verbs
Present Progressive • The present progressive is used to say that something is happening right now. • In English, you make it by using a form of to be with a verb and the present participle.(-ing) • Eg. I am eating. He is working. • In Spanish, use the present tense of estar plus the present participle.
Present particple • To make a present participle, drop the end of infinitive and add –ando(ar verbs) and –iendo(-er/-ir verbs). • Comprar • Comer • escribir Comprando Comiendo escribiendo
Irregular present particples • When the stem of an er or irverbs ends in a vowel, change the –iendo to –yendo. leerleyendo traertrayendo construirconstruyendo • Irregular present participles you must memorize. decir-diciendopedir-pidiendo servir-sirviendovestir-vistiendo dormir-durmiendocaer-cayendo
Placement of pronouns • Pronouns can either be places before the conjugate from of estar or attached to the end of the present participle. • When you attach a pronoun to the present participle, you need to add an accent to the stressed vowel. • Meestoyarreglando. • Estoyarreglándome.
Translate • I am writing to my teacher. • She is talking to the class. • He is washing his face. • We are learning Spanish. • You all are swimming. • They are waking up early. • You are serving dinner.
