No. 617 Squadron is a Royal Air Force aircraft squadron commonly known as the "Dambusters", for its actions during Operation Chastise against German dams during World War II. • The mission used highly specialised bombs to destroy Ruhr dams in Germany. • In 1943 the RAF's 617 Squadron attacked the Möhne, Eder and Sorpe dams in Germany with "bouncing bomb". • Sir Barnes Neville Wallis,was an English scientist, engineer and inventor best known for inventing the bouncing bomb used by the RAF in Operation Chastise (the "Dambusters" raid) to attack the dams of the Ruhr Valley during World War II. • Among his other inventions were the geodesic airframe and the earthquake bomb. • The remark is attributed to Louis XV of France in reference to the impending end of a functioning French monarchy and predicting the French Revolution. • The phrase is now used to denigrate the attitude of someone who acts irresponsibly, without worrying on the consequences that his/her acts could have.
