Recognizing the children today have a millennium brain it is essential that they acquire information literacy skills. • Information literacy is a broad concept that includes the ability to critically evaluate information content , employ it effectively, understand the technological infrastructure on which information transmission is based and its impact on society (ODLIS). • Develop projects that involve blended learning settings; a combination of “face to face” and web based, or similar types of asynchronous instruction. The rapid proliferation of technology and multimedia resources has led to a new paradigm for teaching and learning. The role of teachers has changed from that of an expert to facilitator, guiding students through their learning experiences. Although, there are a number of instructional perspectives, one in particular that perceives students holistically is constructivism. Technology In The New Millennium
Constructivism interfaces well with the Project CRISS. It is the Constructivist’s belief that learners play an active role in the learning process. Learners are engaged in the learning process by having their experiences situated in reality. An Instructional Perspective
Examples of a constructivist learning setting include both cooperative and collaborative strategies in which peers take mutual responsibility for their learning outcomes. The instructional technology (IT) librarian can deliver technology and media resources as an outreach service to the classroom via the mobile laptop unit. The IT librarian can deliver strategies in concept building, problem solving, mind mapping, data manipulation and presentation to the greater student population. The IT librarian will utilize collaboration to construct learning and project modules that support technology applications, research & information literacy within the curriculum. A practical approach includes: • Establishing a good relationship with the professional staff; be approachable • Maintain an in-depth understanding of all subject areas and curriculum goals • Solicit input from classroom teachers • Demonstrate connections between information literacy and curriculum objectives • Be flexible in expectations and timing • Be persistent (Information Power, p51).
